Team Össur members and Össur Ambassadors Triumph at 2017 World Para Athletics Championship

Össur congratulates the members of Team Össur and the Össur Ambassadors who participated at the recent World Championships in London, collecting an astonishing 15 medals at the global track and field competition.

Three Team Össur members were multiple medalists:

  • Richard Whitehead of Great Britain, Gold Medalist in both the Men’s 200m and Men’s Long Jump in the T42 category, and Bronze Medalist in the Men’s T42 100m.
  • Markus Rehm of Germany, Gold Medalist in both the Men’s T44 Long Jump and as a member of the Gold Medal-winning Men’s 4x100 Relay T42-47 team.
  • Daniel Wagner Jorgensen of Denmark, Gold Medalist in the Men’s T42 Long Jump, and Silver Medalist in the Men’s T42 100m.

Össur’s iconic Cheetah prostheses dominated the sprinting events; in the highly contested Men’s T44 100m, seven of the eight competitors wore Cheetah Xtreme, including Team Össur member Arnu Fourie of South Africa, who was the Bronze Medalist. Competing in her first World Championships, Össur Ambassador Sara Andres Barrio of Spain was the Bronze Medalist in the Women’s T44 400m, in a contest where all three bilateral amputee competitors wore Cheetah Xtreme. Meanwhile, Italy’s Federica Maspero, winner of Össur’s first #MyWinningMoment contest, took Silver in the Women’s T44 400m.

In other Track & Field Events:

  • Stef Reid of Great Britain was Gold Medalist in the Women’s T44 Long Jump.
  • Team Össur member Helgi Sveinsson of Iceland took Silver in the men’s T44 in the Javelin, setting a new Course Record at 56.74 meters.
  • Team Össur member Toru Suzuki of Japan took Bronze in the High Jump in the Men’s T44 category.
  • Össur Ambassador Jean-Baptiste Alaize of France was the Bronze Medalist in the Men’s T44 Long Jump.
